Mr Barton said the Government was extremely pleased with the progress being made by its company - Burnett Water - on the Burnett River Dam and the world-class calibre of the companies now being considered. He said the selected consortia included: * Leighton Group: Leighton Contractors - Constructor; Gutteridge Haskins & Davey Pty Ltd - Dam Designer; Coffey Geosciences Pty Ltd Geotechnical Advisors and MWH Australia Pty Ltd - Stakeholder Management. * Thiess Group: Thiess Pty Ltd - Constructor; URS Australia Pty Ltd - Dam Designer; Maunsell Australia - other Infrastructure designer * Walters Group: Walters Construction Group - Constructor; Macmahon Holdings Limited - Earthworks; SMEC Australia Pty Ltd - Dam Designer; Hydro Tasmania Consulting - Dam Designer. "Between them, the selected companies involved in the consortia have designed and/or built some 500 dams in Australia and overseas using leading edge design and construction techniques," Mr Barton said. "It is expected that the successful consortium will be selected early in the last quarter of 2003, with construction due to commence shortly afterwards. "The world-class quality of the selected consortia brings greater certainty that the project will be delivered as planned." Mr Barton said today's announcement comes hot on the heels of the start of the Registration of Interest process for the design and construction of the $20 million Eidsvold Weir in the Burnett region.
